Political dialogue using social media

Twinge

Following from our social media successes in 2008 (one of our tweets from @partyconference even led to a newspaper story about the cleanliness of Manchester’s streets) we wanted to make even more use of Twitter at the Conservative and Labour Party Conferences in 2009.

So we created "Twinge" events (a Twitter Fringe meeting) and partnered with Channel 4 News at the Labour and Conservative Party Conferences.
Channel 4 News' Krishnan Guru-Murthy (@krishgm) introduced panellists including Ed Balls MP (@edballsmp) and Iain Dale (@iainDale) to answer questions from the room and tweets from beyond on the subject: “You tweet if you want to: the web is for opposition, not for governing”.
The two “Twinges” were amongst the top 10 most popular topics on Twitter worldwide while the events were running.
